Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the eleventh WordCamp Europe, held from June 13-15, 2024, at the prestigious Lingotto Conference and Exhibition Centre in Turin. This international center, designed by Renzo Piano, was converted from the building that housed Fiat’s first major car factory into a modern venue for conferences and exhibitions.
The Lingotto is not just a conference center; it is a symbol of Italian innovation and design. Renzo Piano transformed the historic factory into a contemporary space while preserving its past charm. Walking through its halls felt like diving into Italy’s industrial history with an eye towards the future.
WordCamp Europe is one of the most important events for the WordPress community, attracting developers, designers, bloggers, and enthusiasts from all over the world. This year, the event saw an extraordinary turnout, with over 3,000 attendees.
The atmosphere was electrifying, with a mix of seasoned professionals and newcomers eager to learn and share their knowledge. The sponsor booths were filled with interesting new products and gadgets, and the networking opportunities were endless.
During WordCamp, I had the opportunity to attend various talks and workshops that provided me with new perspectives and ideas. One of the most memorable moments was Matt Mullenweg’s keynote, where the co-founder of WordPress discussed the platform’s future and upcoming features.
I also participated in a workshop on WordPress security, which offered valuable tips on how to protect my site from potential threats. It was extremely useful, and I have already started applying some of the techniques I learned.
On the first evening, we were invited to a private event on a terrace organized by SiteGround, a well-known hosting provider celebrating its 20th anniversary. It was a truly special event with a breathtaking view of the city of Turin, excellent food and drinks, and the opportunity to meet extraordinary people in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
Another aspect I thoroughly enjoyed was the chance to reconnect with friends I had met at other Italian and European WordCamps. It was fantastic to catch up and share experiences. Additionally, I had the chance to interact with all the market players who participated as event sponsors, exchanging ideas and opinions on how to improve and innovate in the world of WordPress.
Attending WordCamps is not only an opportunity to learn and network but also to visit new cities and countries. I love exploring the host city and enjoying the local cuisine. Turin, with its rich historical and culinary heritage, did not disappoint.
During WordCamp, I attended many talks, but the following stood out as particularly interesting:
Attending WordCamp Europe 2024 was an incredibly enriching experience. I had the chance to learn from some of the best experts in the field, network with other professionals, and explore new ideas to improve my blog.
I highly recommend anyone involved in the WordPress world to attend events like this. They not only offer a wealth of knowledge and resources but also make you feel part of a passionate and continuously evolving global community.
I am already looking forward to the next edition of WordCamp Europe, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland. It will be another fantastic opportunity to grow, learn, and connect with the amazing WordPress community. See you in Basel in 2025!
